Hackers gained access to Square Enix Online Shop

The Japanese video game developer, Square Enix has blocked access to official  Merchandise store, after security researcher has confirmed the unauthorized access to their site.

The intrusion was detected on September 13. They have immediately contacted an external research agency and asked them to investigate the intrusion. Now, the researcher has confirmed the unauthorized access.

"We have reason to believe that an unknown person gained unauthorized access to a third-party vendor’s server located in Japan that hosts the SQUARE ENIX ONLINE SHOP (Square Enix-branded merchandise). http://www.square-enix-shop.com" The official statement reads.

The server has stored non-financial account data on this server such as name, mailing address, phone number and email. The server in question does not store credit card information for our U.S. customers. So far, there is no evidence of any customer data being downloaded.

After the confirmation of Security breach, Square Enix has temporarily suspended operation of the SQUARE ENIX ONLINE SHOP.

Users are recommended to monitor their credit cards and credit reports for any suspicious activity.
