The computer system of travel reservations distributor Sabre Corp (SABR.O) was attacked by the China-linked hackers, whereas there is no evidence of such breach on American Airlines Group Inc (AAL.O), world’s biggest carrier, Bloomberg reported.
In an email to Reuters, the Company, Sabre, said that, "We recently learned of a cyber security incident. At this time, we are not aware that this incident has compromised sensitive protected information, such as credit card data or personally identifiable information, but our investigation is ongoing."
Sabre is a subsidiary of former American Airlines, but it still operates IP addresses registered to American's name.
However, according to the spokesman Casey Norton of the American Airlines there is no evidence that its customer data might have been compromised.
In an email to Reuters, spokesman Norton clarified that, "American has worked with outside cyber security experts who checked digital signatures, IP addresses and the style of attack, and there's no evidence to suggest a breach similar to that experienced by the U.S. Office of Personnel Management."
According to the Bloomberg reports, this is not the first time that the Chinese hackers has tried to hack the airlines operating in American. In May or early June they targeted the systems of United Continental Holdings Inc (UAL.N).
Norton said, "Not in light of today, but because of prevalent attacks in the industry, we have redoubled our efforts and brought in more cyber security experts to investigate and defend our systems."
