During the Lunar New Year festival in Tianjin on February 6, a humanoid robot from China’s Unitree Robotics unexpectedly exhibited aggressive behavior, raising significant safety concerns regarding robotic deployment in public spaces. The robot, identified as the H1 model, stands 180 cm tall and weighs 47 kg.
As festival attendees reached out to interact with the robot, it suddenly lunged at a spectator, swinging its arms in what was described as an aggressive and violent manner, mimicking human behavior. On-site staff quickly intervened, preventing any injuries, but the incident has sparked widespread alarm.
Unitree Robotics later explained that the issue was likely due to a “program setting or sensor error.” Despite this clarification, the event has intensified concerns about the ethical and safety implications of deploying autonomous robots in public areas.
